Special Recognition

Clive Joseph Buchanan

Founder, Speakers Association of Hawaii

Clive Joseph Buchanan passed away peacefully at his home September 9, 2021, after a short intense battle with leukemia.  He is recognized posthumously as a 2021 inaugural Hawaii Speakers Hall of Fame inductee for his enduring contribution to all of Hawaii’s professional speakers.

Clive Buchanan is recognized for his contribution to the advancement of professional speaking in Hawaii.  A speaker and author known as “The Lion of the Platform” he saw the lack of recognition and support for the professional speakers who call Hawaii their home.  In the mid-1990’s Clive set-out to create an association where established and aspiring professional speakers could come together in a spirit of harmony and mutual support to advance their skills and opportunities and so, the Speakers Association of Hawaii was formed.

As a direct result of Clive’s vision, the Speakers Association of Hawaii continues to this day as the premier professional speaker’s association in Hawaii and the Pacific area.  The number of speakers whose careers and success have been enhanced through their membership in the Speakers Association of Hawaii is immeasurable.
